Who Is Solar Ark?

My name is Adam Folts, sole owner and operator of Solar Ark. With a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and a natural knack for electrical installations, I founded Solar Ark to serve as the pinnacle of my electrical experiences.

It all started back when I was about 6 years old. Everyone had repeatedly told me not to stick my finger in an outlet, saying it might kill me. Despite their warnings, my curiosity eventually got the best of me, so I did just that. While the jolt was shockingly painful, it also sparked a big question in my mind. How can something invisible be so powerful, and yet so misunderstood? This was the beginning of my electrical journey.

In high school circa 2014 I was given the opportunity to take an electrical trades class. It was there that the invisible first became more apparent. It was quite daunting to power up my first circuit, knowing it could spark and trip out if I did something wrong. This feeling quickly faded as I experienced the thrill of correctly powering multiple lightbulbs, switches, and subpanels with the invisible force of electricity. After I established trust in myself and my craftsmanship, I wanted to learn more.

In 2020, I began my first electrical apprenticeship. Under a licensed electrician, I learned the details and practices of residential wiring, from wiring dozens of outlets in a day to the art of panelboard installations. My mentor always reminded me of the importance of quality, with examples of panelboards from past electricians that looked like rats nests. I learned that while there is a sacrifice of time, clean wiring is always safer and easier to modify later down the road.

That same year, I had begun pursuing a degree in electrical engineering. I had enjoyed work as an electrician, but I still had this desire to understand the invisible with more precision and clarity. During my studies at Virginia Tech, I became fascinated by renewable technologies like solar. I loved the vision of generating electricity with a vehicle-mounted solar panel, a micro-hydro turbine in a flowing creek, or a modest wind turbine on a gusty residential property. Lithium battery tech was also quickly rising, as the LiFePO4 battery made mobile solar rigs much more capable of sustained power. As I studied these technologies, I wondered how I could work with both batteries and solar in my next job.

Despite my high GPA and focus on alternative energy systems, along with a competitive and professional resume, I couldn’t seem to find a company in these fields that was interested in hiring me. The market was (and still is) very unstable, and entry-level renewable engineering job posts were saturated with competition. The most I got was an architectural engineering company that had me drawing lines on a computer all day with CAD software. They told me this was my future for the next 4 years until I could become licensed. But I didn’t want a future designing lighting and wiring plans for 20+ years. Instead, I chose to think of other ways to thrive.

Eventually, I got the idea of starting my own business. Along with my life experiences and other dreams, this grew into the complete vision of Solar Ark. It was the combination of all my passions into a single job that was in my total control. I could design mobile solar and battery systems, fine tune every design to the specific client and vehicle, and install it wherever I was needed. Best of all, I could combine my work and my dream of living in the Rockies into a fully-nomadic, earth-conscious lifestyle. A two weeks notice to my former boss and a dream ahead of me, I got right to work. I spent a month liquidating all my belongings, a month testing and reinforcing my rig, and a final month turning my vision into a functioning business. By the end of November 2025, My dream had become reality.

Solar Ark - Nomadic Design and Installation.
Preparing For The Storms Ahead.

Why Solar Ark?

Solar Ark is more than just a business - its a movement. The higher purpose wasn’t solely about putting my skills to use, making a comfortable income, or living nomadically. These were my dreams, but not my mission. This was about returning to a more ancient way of life, incorporating modern technology into the equation, and preparing for what can only be described as an approaching storm.

The world is changing faster than we can predict: powerful hurricanes and wildfires, power blackouts, economic and political shifts, and a growing sense that we can’t rely on the old systems anymore. In addition, more and more individuals are experiencing a sort of spiritual awakening, with an urgency to return to the older ways of life and to reconnect with mother nature before she changes forever; before the storm arrives.

Our name is inspired by the idea of an ark: a sanctuary that moves with you, powered by the sun, built to survive whatever’s ahead. Whether it’s a literal storm or the chaos of modern life, I’m here to help you stay free, stay powered, and stay one step ahead - because when the flood comes (and it always does), you’ll want to be ready.

Our Core Values

Transparency, Adaptability, Sovereignty

When forging this business, I wanted to create something which stood out from the norm. I was tired of seeing companies with core values which they never held themselves accountable to. Instead, I wanted the values of this company to be non-negotiable and mission-oriented. From this vision, the following values were born.

Transparency

In today’s world, we tend to get one-way transparency. Practically any large corporate entity can use surveillance tech to see into our lives. But when it comes to corporate transparency, you can forget it. Companies without transparency tend to dissolve trust into control, and fairness into greed. I wanted to build a business that was transparent in a bold and unapologetic way. I could see it clearly - pricing without hidden or unnecessary fees, meetings that felt genuine and human, and a no-B.S. truth-oriented approach to every decision and action. I wasn’t about to adopt the whole “The Customer is Always Right” mantra, but I wanted Solar Ark to serve good people, not the other way around.

Adaptability

If you want to see what adaptability isn’t, just look at corporations like DuPont or Chevron. Over a century ago, these companies chose to feed the machine while actively poisoning the environment without end. They’re not adapting to environmental change - they’re exacerbating it. I wanted to do something to fight back against this eco-tyranny, by becoming one with the very nature they slaughter. Living nomadically means returning to a migratory style of life and business, listening to the weather patterns and working with the schedule Mother Earth gives us. But adaptability is about more than just cancelling due to bad weather. Its about being human in how we work with you. Did your schedule change last-minute? Didn’t get that paycheck you were promised by the government? Just need a quick fix before bad weather hits? Native tribes used to adapt to worse things. Let’s work through it like we’re part of a modern tribal community.

Sovereignty

We The People. Our nation was created with a vision of sovereignty, with a government that would serve the people. But looking at today’s world from a clear lens without bias or delusion, the obvious truth is that we have been enslaved in a shallow cycle of corporate tyranny. More and more people are waking up to this, especially after the whole pandemic fiasco and ‘two weeks to slow the spread’. But if there’s one thing 2020 really revealed, its that when we choose en masse, we can shake the system. With the huge spike in van-lifers and nomads, people discovered that we really are capable of being a sovereign, fully-independent people by just working together for a common goal. On the contrary, large corporate entities across the globe have slandered us as a threat to their new system of fully-centralized and controlled life. So, Solar Ark stands firmly against their will. We build mobile, autonomous systems designed to outlast their control scheme, and to bring you a piece of your own sovereignty.

A Spiritual Journey

I used to be a religious person, several years back. But ever since I started these multi-week immersions into nature, I began to realize something essential to life was missing from those shallow sermons. It was The Earthly Mother, the very planet which nurtures us and all of the wilderness. They called it a resource, matter, a byproduct. But I began to see her energy as a living painting - one which called me deeper into the wild. I don’t believe in structured ‘salvation’ anymore, but I do believe in reaching the lives of others with a bit of wisdom and love.

Solar Ark is the result of a wakeup call I received one night. I was given a vision of a great flood which caught the people off guard. I remembered staring out my window to the sight of hundreds of gravestones with adults and kids alike mourning over the lost souls. There were boats navigating the muddied floodwaters, rescuing those they could and recovering bodies from the drowned cars. The waters were right by my house, even at my doorstep, waiting for me to step outside and see. When I did, I saw beyond the gravestones to the horizon, where my jaw dropped. Despite the muddied floodwaters which had devastated the people, a second, larger storm was rapidly approaching to take the others away. I felt the impulse to command everyone to follow me, and the torrential downpour began. The feelings of grief, rage, and passion filled my chest as I marched through the storm, somehow knowing that I was followed by those who heard my call.

The experience ended at the immersive vision of the downpour, after which I woke up to a literal downpour of rain outside my window. It was like a confirmation that the dream I had was more than a dream - it was a reflection of times to come. It was a wakeup call to get myself moving, to prepare myself and others to survive the coming flood. Solar Ark is that preparation, with the mobility and ruggedness to power our lives when the grid, the economy, and society all come crashing down at once. Because when we unite together as a sovereign people, bowing to no tyrant and following the truth in our hearts and minds, I believe we can survive any storm.
